Blue Light (WIP)

I am being invited to become one with the blue light, and I am going to take it up on its offer, but first, I am writing this letter to share my story and describe the nature of the blue light as I understand.

This started last Friday night, my friend group were all gathered at Ryan's place in [TOWN] to have our weekly session of [CARD GAME]. This night was more exciting than usual as a new set of [CARD GAME] had released, so we were all taking turns opening the packs of cards we had pre-ordered and experimenting with different decks in battles. Due to this excitement, we got carried away and left a bit later than usual, roughly 1 in the morning to be exact. Overall, it was a fun night, but not very eventful. Yet.

The strangeness begins on the drive home. The route between my place and Ryan's takes me through a forest. As I was driving through this forest, almost passing out due to the late night, I noticed a strong blue light coming from the tree line up to left. This immediately woke up. I knew something was off. I had driven this route probably dozens of times before and had never seen this blue light.

My first thought was that to be fair I usually did not drive through the forest at this time, I was usually leaving quite a bit earlier so perhaps there was actually a good reason for this blue light. My might instinctively went towards some sort of bug or animal repellent. However, what I found was much stranger, definitely not of that nature.

Curiosity getting the better of me, I stopped, the car and exited my vehicle and slowly made my way towards the blue light. As I made my way towards the light, I could feel a strange warmth, as if I was being guided and invited towards it. The closer I got, the more intrigued I was about what this was. As I close to the source of the light I started to hear some sort of chanting in a tongue I did not recognize. It sounded ancient. Similar to Latin perhaps, I am not sure.

Soon, I come upon a large circular opening in the middle of this forest and what I saw next shook me, but I was so intrigued I had to continue watching. In the middle of this opening was a massive hole in the ground, with blue light stemming out of it in all directions. Surrounding this massive hole were twelve robed figures, looking down at the books they were holding. It seemed as if they were performing some sort of ritual. The robes themselves were a bright white, with a strange symbol on the back. [DESCRIBE SYMBOL]

My instincts were telling me that I should leave immediately, that I was not supposed to be here and that I was intruding on some sort of secret ritual being performed by some cult. But this did not explain all of these oddities. How was there a hole this massive just in the middle of the forest? What was the blue light? What did the symbol mean? What was the ritual they were performing?

Despite my hesitancy, I decided that I was going to stay and watch until the end. I needed to know what was going on. As the ritual continued on, I could sense the warmth of the blue light continue to grow and I was beginning to grow sweaty. I couldn't imagine what these robed figures must have been feeling being much closer than he. After a few moments, the chanting stopped, the ritual seemingly completed. And then the strangeness continued, I still can't explain it. One by one, the robed figures jumped into the hole, disappearing completely in the blue abyss. Until were none left. And then, the hole began to slowly fill in on itself, until it was completely gone as if it was never there in the first place. The blue light had also completely disappeared, not even a small hint of it could be seen anywhere. This was backed up by the fact that the warmth had dissipated as well, I went from sweaty to freezing in a matter of seconds.

Frozen in place, confused at what I just saw I didn't know what to do. Eventually, I decided to investigate this now empty opening to see if there were any signs of there being a hole there previously or the blue light. As I got to the center of the opening I jumped up and down, and nothing happened. It was just normal grass / ground. It really was as if the hole was never there in the first place.

Extremely exhausted, confused and not sure what else to do, I decided that I would go home for the night and do some more investigation once I woke up. I had a couple of ideas to look into see if there would be any results on the internet. I could try to find any cults or groups that were related to a blue light. I can remember exactly what the symbol looked like, so I could sketch it out and see if there was anyone online who recognized it.

When I woke up the next morning it was quite late in the morning, roughly 10:30am. I didn't get home until 2 or 2:30, so to get a full nights rest I slept in quite a bit. I sat in bed for a few moments contemplating happened to me earlier in the morning, and decided that I would spend the day doing some research. But first. I would go to the convenience store across the street to get some drinks and snacks. So, I got dressed and made my way over there.

This is where things begin to get even stranger, if you could believe that. I had decided on getting a couple of sports drinks, one blue another red and had decided on a chocolate bar and a bag of chips. I knew it wasn't healthy, but honestly, I did not care. I knew I was going to spend the day researching and was not in the mood in making anything healthier. As I approached the counter to pay I noticed a cardboard box containing three packs of cards from [CARD GAME]. I immediately knew something was off, and in hindsight I should have been more skeptical but I was too caught up in the events and excited about the potential of opening new packs of cards.

Usually, these packs of cards sell out months in advance and requires pre-orders. Usually you are limited to only a single box per customer. My friend group and I go to a local card shop we trust and they are most of the time able to secure us at least a few packs for each new release. I have never in my entire time living at the apartment across the street from the convenience store seen a single pack of cards at this convenience store.

Intrigued, I asked the owner who at this point I was on somewhat friendly terms with how he was able to get these deck of cards. His reply should have raised more red flags, but I guess I was too excited. He said that he didn't actually order these cards at all, and didn't really know much about them. Apparently, someone a couple of hours before I had got there had come into the store and explained that these were sought after packs being that they were new and that I would sell them quite quickly. Apparently the guy was doing promotion for the new set and that he was giving away free decks of cards to sell to convenience stores, smaller game shops, etc.

Again, this was full of more red flags. I had never heard of the company doing any sort of promotion like this before. Plus, the company would never need it. As I said earlier, new sets require pre-ordering months in advance. These are highly sought after. It makes no sense as to why the company would be giving these away for free when they could make more selling them, just to run a promotion that clearly wasn't needed.

Anyways, my excitement got the better of me and I purchased the last three remaining packs along my drinks and snacks and made my way home. Once I got back to my apartment I settled down at my computer to put on some music to listen to while I opened the three packs of cards.

I ripped open the first two packs quite quickly. There was nothing too amazing in either of the packs but I did get a couple of rarer cards to add the collection. Regardless, I enjoy collecting as many cards as possible. Even the more common ones are technically rare at this point due to scarcity and I would be able to 'surprise' our friends with these new cards at our next game session. They knew what cards I had pulled while there last night, and wouldn't expect these new additions.

As I picked up the last unopened pack I immediately knew this pack was different. It definitely weighed heavier than the last. When all three were together, it was hard to tell the difference as the weight was combined, but having just opening the previous two I was able to definitively tell beforehand this pack was different.

This time, I opened the pack as slow as possible in case there was a rare card in there. As I started to flip through the cards, I noticed that the card at the back felt different than the rest. It was heavier, as if it was made of a thicker more premium cardboard. Once I noticed this, my heart started beating in excitement. I had finally pulled a legendary, limited edition card. This was the card that everyone was after, and they only make a fixed amount of these per set. I quickly made my through the first nine cards until I only had the last one to read. And my heart sank immediately.

The name of this card was called 'The Blue Light', below the title, as with every other card was a picture. The picture depicted twelve robed figures surrounding a massive hole in the ground with blue light stemming out of. This was exactly what he had just experienced in the morning. The picture gave him chills, not only because it was clearly referencing what he had experienced but because it was as if the picture were taken from his memory. Somehow someone had captured exactly what he had saw. Even the miniscule details such as the tree line, branches on the ground, the exact angle I was looking onwards of the ritual.
